Topped the qualifiers
Fifteen-year-old Charlie Woods topped the qualifiers for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Eagle Trace Golf Club, making his USGA event debut. Despite a rocky start in Florida, he finished at 1-under.
Really good
"I didn’t play great my first two holes, but I played really good for the last 16," Woods said. Woods finished 61st in the U.S. Open qualifiers in Port St. Lucie, scoring 9-over.
Against his father
"I just told myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles and I took advantage of some nice birdie looks when I had them," he added. Woods missed a chance to compete against his father but aims to follow his successful path, given his father's Junior Amateur win at 15, the same age as Woods now.
Bouncing back
He showed resilience by bouncing back and hitting five birdies during the rounds, ultimately clinching the victory. Following the recent U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, the younger Woods attended to support his father in the tournament and also made an attempt to qualify himself.
I want to win
"I want to win USGA championships and hopefully one day the U.S. Open," Woods said.
Considerable challenge
Before advancing further, he will face a considerable challenge at the Junior Amateur event, competing against a vast field of 264 young golfers all striving for victory.
Take place
This tournament is set to take place at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan, with the event scheduled to run from July 22nd to 27th.
