New Asylum Policies Help Cut Illegal Border Crossings by 65%
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services or USCIS said in a recent report that illegal border crossings have dropped steeply over the past four months. This is partly due to new asylum restrictions and also from Mexico tightening its border. USCIS said of the nearly 1 million illegal border crossers only 105,000 actually claimed credible fear of being returned to their home country. USCIS says that this has set a new record. The top five countries which had credible fear claims processed are; Honduras, Cuba, Guatemala, El Salvador, and India.
Since the January implementation of the Migrant Protection Protocol or MPP, now most asylum seekers are sent back to Mexico to await their claims. On August 21 of this year, the Dept of Homeland Security issued a final rule that terminated the Flores Agreement which says no child can be held in custody for more than 20 days. This meant since it normally takes up to 45 days for a claim to be processed, children and families were released into the U.S. and only given a court date to return which most never did. The new rule means that children and families will remain in detention together until processed. This will provide more safety for the children. President Trump said regarding this issue, “ To protect these children from abuse and stop the illegal flow, we must close these loopholes. This is an urgent humanitarian necessity.”
Louis Vuitton Plans To Create 1K U.S. Jobs by Opening Plant in Texas Town
The International luxury and leather goods brand, Louis Vuitton, is planning on opening a new plant in the small Texas town of Keene located in Johnson County. The plant will eventually create 1,000 American jobs. On Thursday, the President and his daughter Ivanka Trump visited the new factory. The town of Keene has a population of only 6,500 residents, and this allows the global luxury fashion label to avoid tariffs on goods made in the factory.
The Louis Vuitton factory will first employ 150 American workers with a plan after expansion to then hire 850 more workers by 2024. The goods manufactured at the plant will be labeled with “ Made in the USA” tags.
Dallas Reporter Compares Trump Crowd to Beto’s Counter Rally – It’s Not Even Close
While President Trump held his rally on October 17 in Dallas, Texas, Democratic hopeful Beto O’Rourke held his own rally in nearby Grand Prairie, Texas. He called his rally “The Rally Against Fear’. A local reporter from CBS, Caroline Vandergriff, took some time-lapse videos and photos of the two rallies and posted them on social media. O’Rourke’s rally was held at a theater that had seating for 6,350. Vandergriff videoed Trump Supporters who were lining up for the Trump rally that would be held the next day some 20 hours before the event start time, with most supporters literally camping in line.
When the President saw the line of his supporters camping in line a day before the rally he sent a tweet, “ THANK YOU Dallas, Tx. See you tomorrow night at the American Airlines Center.” O’Rourke was quick to also post a tweet for his rally, “ If you’re in Dallas and want to stand up to his hatred and bigotry, be a part of our Rally Against Fear tomorrow night. We will show President Trump he doesn’t represent Texas-and he doesn’t represent America.”
The photos showing the crowds from the two rallies is probably not what O’Rourke anticipated. As the start time grew closer the crowd at O’Rourke’s event picked up,.. but so did the crowd outside the American Airline Center. The numbers? Not even close, a group going to see a movie or 50,000 going to support their President. O’Rourke has held similar ‘counter-rallies’ whenever Trump has visited Texas and sadly with the same results.
Today’s quote is from Samuel Adams.
“ A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole Force of the Common Enemy.”
