Pro-Democracy Parties Secure Landslide Victory in Hong Kong

After the Nov 24 elections held in Hong Kong, the pro-democracy camp has won a landslide victory.  This is proof that the majority of the Hong Kong people support the protest movement and are against the Chinese regime’s encroachment.  Democratic candidates secured more than half of the 452 district council seats for the first time.  Residents turned out in record numbers.  The turn-out was twice the size of the last district elections held in 2015.  The pro-democracy groups secured 334 seats, while the pro-establishment camp scored only 37. A record of 1,104 candidates was vying for 452 seats.

Jimmy Sham, a candidate running for the Civil Human Rights Front, said: “This election is special because it is a formal confrontation between pro-establishment and pro-democracy parties after months of unrest caused by the misstep of government.” Sham made this statement standing with crutches just weeks after he was attacked and beaten by men with hammers at a rally in October.  He went on to say, “ It is a victory for the people of Hong Kong.” This victory has sent a clear message to the present leadership, that the pro-democracy movement is not in the minority.

On Sunday, Defense Secretary Mark Espen asked for Spencer’s resignation. In a response to Spencer’s firing the President Tweeted,

“ I was not pleased with the way that Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher’s trial was handled by the Navy.  He was treated very badly but despite this, was completely exonerated on all major charges. I restored Eddie’s rank.” Trump added. “ Therefore Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer’s services have been terminated by Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper. I thank Richard for his service and commitment. Eddie will retire peacefully with all the honors that he has earned, including his Trident Pin.”  The President nominated now Ambassador, Admiral Ken Braithwaite to replace Spencer as the new Secretary of the Navy.

Bloomberg News Pledges Not To Investigate Democratic Presidential Candidates

Now that Michael Bloomberg has officially entered the Democratic Presidential race, Bloomberg News says it won’t conduct investigative reporting on any Democrat presidential candidates, declared the news outlet’s editor-in-chief, John Micklethwait on Sunday.  In a note to his staffers, he said, “ We will continue our tradition of not investigating Mike and his family or his foundation and we will extend the same policy to his rivals in the Democratic Primaries.”

The news outlet says that for the time being, “ we will continue to investigate the Trump administration as the government of the day.”  On an interesting note, Michael Bloomberg recently defended the Chinese regime leader, Xi Jinping and said that he did not consider Xi a dictator at all.  He said, “ The communist party wants to stay in power in China, and so they listen to the public.”  Well, this gives a bit of an insight as to what type of policies Michael Bloomberg will likely embrace as a President.
