Amid Opioid Epidemic, A Meth Crisis Is in the Making
While overdose deaths from opioids have seen a slight decrease, there is now another epidemic that is threatening the nation and that is from methamphetamines. Nearly 14,000 people have died of overdoses involving meth. This was reported by the CDC from preliminary data. In 2010 there were reported 1,900 deaths and even less from 2001 when there were just several hundred.
Meth used to be made in ‘home labs’ where the drug was produced and was only at about 25% purity. Now the drug is being made and distributed by the Mexican Cartel. Sen. Steve Daines said during an Oct 24 hearing, “ It’s much more potent, the prices have come down because there’s so much more being produced and distribution has certainly become much more sophisticated.” Though the U.S. has clamped down on the sale of the chemicals needed to make meth, now the precursor drugs are coming in from China.
The State Dept previously stated that Chinese criminal syndicates are shipping the drugs from China seemingly legal but then diverting the shipments to illegal meth producers. Jeff Nyquist, an author and researcher on Chinese and Russian strategy told the Epoch Times Newspaper, “ You could call it a form of chemical warfare.”
Excalibur Found? 700 Yr Old Sword Discovered Stuck In A Rock
The famous legend of King Arthur and Excalibur, a famous sword that was stuck in a stone that only he could dislodge has now been found? A newly discovered sword stuck in a rock in a Bosnian river is being described as a ‘real-life Excalibur’. The 700-year-old sword was discovered in the Vbras River, 36 feet underwater. The sword was found sticking out of a rock. Archeologist Ivana Pandzic said the sword was found while they were excavating a nearby castle. She said they had to take special care when they pulled it out.
Igor Radojicic, Mayor of the nearby city of Banja Luja, the second-largest city in Bosnia, tweeted, “ Our Sword in Stone taken out of the Vbras after who knows how many centuries!” Researchers are now trying to figure out how the sword became embedded in the rock.
VP Pence:’ NBA is acting like a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chinese Communist Party’
Vice President Mike Pence blasted the NBA on Thursday claiming that the league is “ acting like a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chinese Communist Party.” The National Basketball Association has been embroiled in a controversy ever since they apologized for a tweet that their Rockets GM, Daryl Morey made when he tweeted his support for the Hong Kong demonstrators. Pence said, “ Some of the NBA’s biggest players and owners, who routinely exercise their freedom to criticize this country, lose their voices when it comes to the freedom and rights of other peoples.”
LeBron James made headlines last week for accusing Morey of not being
‘educated’ on the China-Hong Kong issue and pointed out the ‘negative’ side effects of free speech. Many of the other NBA players have also decided not to criticize China. One thing not mentioned in Pence’s speech was that two days prior, LeBron James screamed and walked off the court during the American national anthem.
How A Former ICE Chief Reacted When Student Protesters Shouted Him Offstage
Former ICE acting Director Tom Homan was slated to speak at an immigration event held by the University of Pennsylvania but was heckled off the stage by protesters. There was also a petition signed by 400 opponents of the Trump administration calling for the event to be cancelled. This is the second time an immigration official has been heckled by college students. Acting DHS Chief Kevin McAleenan, was recently heckled at Georgetown University earlier this month.
While talking on Fox & Friends Homan said, “ The ones who want to shout down meaningful discussion will remain ignorant.” Homan said he has enforced the laws of this country for over 30 years, under six presidents but had never seen this level of protest until now. Homan also stated that the Obama administration deported illegal aliens at a higher rate than the Trump administration. He commented, “ The sad part is half the audience- I was watching the reaction on their faces- they were as disgusted as I was.”
One thing that brought a chuckle from Homan was when he saw one protester that was screaming and holding a sign that said ‘Abolish ICE’ and the word abolish was spelled wrong. He said maybe the student should attend more school instead of protests. Homan did say that after the room was cleared a small group and he and the other two speakers went to a smaller room and had a nice debate.
