Amidst the ongoing protest in Hong Kong, “Zooming In” host Simone Gao interviews China and Taiwan expert Steven Yates. He was the Deputy National Security Adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney from 2001 to 2005. They discuss how the Hong Kong protests could affect the U.S.-China trade war, Taiwan’s 2020 presidential election, and inspiration for democracy in mainland China.
