The United Kingdom is now officially set to leave the European Union on January 31 at 23:00 GMT. With the announcement of Royal Assent on Thursday, the withdrawal agreement championed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson officially became law. Deputy Speaker Nigel Evans had the honor of making the announcement to a nearly empty House of Commons: “I have to announce in the House in accordance with the Royal Assent Act 1967 that her majesty has signified her Royal Assent to the following act: European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020.”
After December’s paradigm-shifting general election in the United Kingdom, it might have seemed a bit anticlimactic, but on Thursday the House of Commons passed Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal with the European Union by a healthy margin of 330 – 231. The vote would seemingly put an end to more than three years of political fearmongering, unwarranted delay and prevarication by “Remainer” politicians and pundits.
Illegal aliens from France are piling into boats and attempting to cross the English Channel. And those illegals are not, of course, French. They are Afghans, Iraqis, Iranians, and others. Even worse, they know that even if they can’t make it across the choppy water if rescued the next stop might well be England, which will never deport them. Thus is the sea-going invasion of nearly 2,000 illegals frighteningly reminiscent of the story that novelist Jean Raspail told in Camp of the Saints, his prophetic, apocalyptic novel about an invasion of the West by penniless hordes of the Third World.
