The owners of a Michigan bed-and-breakfast took down the Norwegian flag outside their business because people were mistaking it for the Confederate flag and accusing them of promoting racism. Greg and Kjersten Offenbecker own the Nordic Pineapple, a mansion built in St. Johns in 1861 by Oliver Spaulding, a brevetted brigadier general in the Union army. Kjersten Offenbecker’s “grandfather was born in Norway, and the bed and breakfast’s name is, in part, inspired by her family history,” reported the Lansing State Journal.
More than 100 Wisconsin police agencies have backed out of security agreements to assist the Milwaukee police with crowd control at the Democratic National Convention scheduled for August 17-20. The main reason for the pull-out seems to be a directive issued by the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission that the city no longer use tear gas to control unruly crowds.
RICHMOND, VA — In lockstep with other cities across America, Richmond, Virgina — the former capitol of the Confederate States of America — saw violent and destructive riots over the weekend. And the liberal establishment in both government and media are spinning the violence and destruction as both an isolated incident and as the work of White Supremacist infiltrators.
In 2020, it’s definitely not “OK to be White” at the Democratic National Convention. A draft of the DNC’s 2020 Democratic Party Platform obtained by Politico shows a frequent focus on racial issues, with language that repeatedly accuses whites in America of benefiting unfairly from society at the expense of minorities.
The city council of Asheville, North Carolina, voted 7-0 on Tuesday in favor of a resolution, which will give reparations to “black Asheville” in the form of tax dollars which will be targeted to the city's black community. Reparations will not be paid to individual citizens but will include provisions for increasing minority homeownership, access to affordable housing, increasing minority business ownership opportunities, promoting “generational” wealth equity and closing gaps in education, healthcare, employment, and criminal justice.
New legislation by progressive “Squad” members Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley would enact a radical transformation of law enforcement in America, eliminating life sentences, expunging drug crimes retroactively, and permanently closing prisons and immigration detention centers, among other changes.
Because of supposed police injustice against blacks and cities burning from riots, some are calling to nationalize local police forces, but that just takes away local control. Using George Floyd’s death as a rationale, some Americans want to transfer more police authority away from local and state government, and into the hands of the federal government. This supposed solution to any problems of local law enforcement is as dangerous as it is nonsensical, and it would lead to less, not more, respect for the rights of individuals — of all ethnicities — in our country.
It is becoming increasingly clear that revolutionaries wreaking havoc in the streets and their allies in the Deep State are using old communist tactics to wage war on America. The cure for COVID-19 was apparently — a riot? At least it seemed like it there for a minute. One day, the establishment claimed it was murder to go out in public for anything “non-essential.” The next day, not going out in public and assembling in large crowds was tacit support for “systemic racism” and “white supremacy.” Even leading public officials agreed.
More than 400 current students and alumni from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University in New Jersey have signed a letter to the school's administration demanding, among other things, that the school pay slavery reparations and abolish the school's police force.
When Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan sent city crews in to reclaim the six blocks seized by anarchists following the death of George Floyd in May, she no doubt was expecting compliance. After all, she had given in to some of their demands, including cutting some funding to the Seattle Police Department. She also offered social services to them in order to “encourage those living overnight in Cal Anderson [Park] to begin leaving the area or, if experiencing homelessness, to take [advantage of] an offer for shelter,” all at taxpayers’ expense.
Shouldn’t they be hiring social workers to protect them? After the Minneapolis City Council on Friday unanimously approved a proposed amendment that will allow the dismantling of the police department, it came to light that three of those council members hired private security at a cost of $63,000 (thus far), or $4,500 a day, to taxpayers.
The tragic death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer has become the pretext for the Marxist and Leninist Left in America to tear down statues of American history, push for the renaming of military bases named after Civil War generals, pressure the Hollywood “cancel culture” to axe popular television shows such as Cops, and call to defund police departments in favor of funding “community organizations” agitating for even more radical leftist demands. Sadly, the halls of Congress are not immune from this insidious anti-police push.
George Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, is calling on the United Nations to investigate “police brutality” and racism in the United States. “The way you saw my brother tortured and murdered on camera is the way black people are treated by police in America,” Philonise Floyd told the UN at an “emergency meeting” of the globalist organization’s Human Rights Council, from which President Trump withdrew America in 2018.
In the current climate of “race before everything else,” it seems likely that Joe Biden, the presumptive Democrat nominee for president, will be pressured into picking a black woman for his running mate. But according to some black Democrats, there's at least one white woman that might also be an “acceptable” choice — Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren.
The Boy Scouts of America is the latest organization to join the social-justice bandwagon sweeping the nation following the death of George Floyd, showing solidarity with Black Lives Matter (BLM) by unveiling a “diversity and inclusion” merit badge that will be required to attain the rank of Eagle Scout — BSA’s highest rank. Remember that BLM is a group that is pro-communist, anti-American, and anti-police. Just five years ago, its members marched chanting, “Pigs in a blanket. Fry like bacon!” It seems that to BSA police lives don't matter.
The next wave of Big Tech purges has arrived. Google cracked down on two right-of-center news and commentary outlets for allegedly racist coverage of the George Floyd riots this week, demonetizing the website ZeroHedge by banning it from the Google ad platform and threatening to do the same to The Federalist, prompting the latter to fall into compliance.
Contract tracers working for the city of New York reportedly are not permitted to ask anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 if they have attended any recent protests, despite the lack of social distancing at those events and their likelihood for allowing the virus to spread to other individuals.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee put out a warning to rioters and anarchists seeking to replicate Seattle’s autonomous zone, saying that “lawlessness, autonomous zones, and violence will not be tolerated.” According to the Tennessean, activists aligned with the recent protests over the death of George Floyd intended to set up their own autonomous zone within the state’s capital.
Police and crime expert Heather Mac Donald told the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that white cops do not disproportionately kill black suspects and are less likely to shoot them than minority cops. The message: Contrary to the narrative from Black Lives Matter and the anti-cop mainstream media, the unfortunate death of George Floyd at the hands of police was an outlier and not typical of police in general or their interactions with black Americans in particular.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan (D), shown, brushed off concerns over the “cop-free” Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, in which agitators riding the wave of anger over the death of George Floyd have set up barricades and posted armed guards to keep out police — effectively creating an independent nation within six blocks of the city’s downtown.
During a trip to Texas, President Trump announced that the administration will take steps to address perceived racial inequalities and police brutality as the nation continues to reel with protests, riots, looting, and arson over the death of George Floyd at the hands of a white Minneapolis police officer.
It’s amazing what can be accomplished in a lie’s name. As with the Reichstag fire, the George Floyd incident actually happened but has been portrayed as representing something it doesn’t: In reality, police are more likely to kill white than black suspects. Despite this, it’s being used as a pretext to tear down statues, cancel popular TV shows, defund police forces, stifle unfashionable opinion and, generally, further ravage our culture and institutions.
Question: What’s the main difference today between the average politically correct university and your typical large corporation? Answer: The size of their bank accounts.
“I feel like we are living in a George Orwell novel.” That was one reaction to New Jersey governor Phil Murphy’s recent statement that he “can’t imagine” telling George Floyd anti-“systemic racism” protesters to stay home. This is the same politician who not only imagined telling anti-lockdown protesters to stay home, but did so, unabashedly.
Is bipartisanship something to be lauded when it’s a bipartisan betrayal of the Constitution? Democrat and Republican leaders on the Senate Judiciary Committee appear to have found common ground on the issue of police reform as cities across the nation are rocked by protests, riots, and vandalism in response to the death of George Floyd.
A circuit court judge in Richmond has blocked leftist Governor Ralph Northam’s plan to remove the Robert E. Lee Monument in Richmond. Judge Bradley Cavedo issued a 10-day stay of execution for Marse Robert, pursuant to a lawsuit that says the state, which owns the statue and land, cannot remove it because of its contract with the original landowners.
America’s Marxist agitators have a well-funded get-out-of-jail free card waiting for them, one that has the support of a familiar name: George Soros. Following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis Police Department officer and the resultant protests and riots, bail-out charities have been infused with huge amounts of donations with which to post bail for the rioters, looters, and vandals arrested amid the anarchy.
Following the remarkably robust and surprising jobs report released last Friday, President Trump’s reelection campaign manager Brad Parscale announced that his political rallies would resume: Americans are ready to get back to action, and so is President Trump. The great American comeback is real and the rallies will be tremendous. You’ll again see the kind of crowds and enthusiasm that sleepy Joe Biden can only dream of.
Following the riots that saw more than 200 cities across all 50 states burned and looted in the wake of the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis, it is now being reported that federal law-enforcement officials are investigating whether Antifa provided a coordinated command and control over the violence.
As many are taking to the streets in America to express their First Amendment rights, a fair number of citizens are quietly engaging in their Second Amendment rights as well. Gun stores nationwide are reporting a sharp upsurge in sales amid first the COVID-19 scare and now the civil unrest occurring due to the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.
Have would-be school shooters and other criminals just been given the green light in Portland? Portland Public Schools, the largest school district in Oregon, announced this week that, in response to the death of George Floyd, it will no longer use school resource officers on its campuses, making it one of a number of districts from Minnesota to Colorado to re-examine its relationship with law enforcement.
As riots and lawlessness spread across the United States in the wake of the tragic killing of a black man in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota, some have opted to urge a transfer of more police authority away from local and state government, and into the hands of the federal government. This supposed solution to any problems of law enforcement is nonsensical, and it will lead to less, not more, respect for the rights of individuals — of all ethnicities — in our country.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has opted to raise the charge against Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin from third-degree murder to second-degree murder. The three other officers involved in the killing of George Floyd have also been charged with second-degree aiding and abetting manslaughter.
Violent protests, looting, and rioting have been taking place in cities throughout the country for days following the death of George Floyd at the hands of police, as mounting evidence continues to indicate that these so-called protests are not organically grown, but are being orchestrated by dangerous and well-funded groups such as Antifa and Black Lives Matter. In areas of civil unrest, pallets of bricks have reportedly been placed, presumably to be used as weapons of destruction by looters when the sun goes down.
The pathologists who conducted a second autopsy on George Floyd, who died while a Minneapolis police officer restrained him with a knee to the back of the neck, say Floyd died of asphyxia. Hired by Floyd’s family, celebrity pathologist Michael Baden and the University of Michigan’s Allecia Wilson dispute the medical examiner in Hennepin County, Minnesota, who concluded that Floyd’s death was a homicide but that he was not, in layman’s terms, strangled to death.
Derek Chauvin, the police officer who kept his knee firmly planted in the neck of George Floyd until he was either dead or near-death, has been charged with third-degree murder. According to the allegation made by the Hennipin County Attorney’s Office on Friday, “The defendant had his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total. Two minutes and 53 seconds of this was after Mr. Floyd was non-responsive.” (Emphasis added.)
Violent protests have rocked Minneapolis for a second day and night, following the death of George Floyd, a black man, while being arrested by the local police. Thirty fires along East Lake Street have been reported by the Minneapolis Fire Department, and looters have used Floyd’s death as an excuse to steal from fellow citizens who had nothing to do with the incident that took place on Monday of this week.
