Seattle Held “Undoing Whiteness” Training for City Employees

The Seattle city government held a whites-only employee training session in which workers were instructed in “undoing your own whiteness” so as to be held accountable to people of color, per documents obtained through a public records request.
The session was held on June 12, while the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) was still taking place. Literature handed out during the training declared that “racism is not our fault but we are responsible.” Another handout said white employees should give up “the land” and their “guaranteed physical safety” in order to become an “accomplice” for racial justice.
Christopher F. Rufo, an editor for City Journal and director of the Discovery Institute’s Center on Wealth and Poverty, said he discovered the full nature of these sessions after filing a public-records request. He published copies of the training materials on his Twitter account.
One document described concepts such as “individualism,” “paternalism,” and “intellectualization” as “internalized racial oppression.”
In the e-mail invitation for the event, titled “Training on Internalized Racial Superiority for White People,” the Office of Civil Rights asked “city employees who identify as white to join this training to learn, reflect, challenge ourselves, and build skills and relationships that help us show up more fully as allies and accomplices for racial justice.”
“We’ll examine our complicity in the system of white supremacy — how we internalize and reinforce it — and begin to cultivate practices that enable us to interrupt racism in ways to be accountable to Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) folks within our community,” the invitation further said.
During the session, white staffers were urged to surrender the “niceties from neighbors and colleagues,” “the certainty of your job,” and “accepting jobs and promotions when we are not qualified, including racial equity jobs.”
A flowchart illustrated how white people allegedly “keep the system going” by being socialized “to cause harm to POC [people of color].”
One document was titled “Assimilation into Whiteness” and claimed to explain how different ethnicities, such as Jews, Arabs, Armenians, Irish, and Italians still classify as white. Employees were also taught how to “interrupt” their whiteness by being “honest and implicate yourself either in the moment or in past experiences in which you acted or thought similarly.”
According to Rufo, the City of Seattle “refused to provide the names of the diversity trainers, the budget for the program, or the video of the session.”
“It’s a dark irony that the City of Seattle’s Office of Civil Rights would host racially segregated training sessions and demand that its white employees give up their ‘physical safety’ and ‘white normative behavior,’” Rufo said in a statement to Fox News.
This new racial orthodoxy is now sweeping through local government, schools, and corporate HR departments, and threatens to undermine the American idea of equality under the law. The City of Seattle should immediately launch an investigation into this practice, change its policy on race-segregated training sessions, and abandon the cult-like ideology of “critical race theory.”
The social engineering being forced onto employees in HR settings is also taking place in America’s classrooms. There is a growing movement to inject race and racism into every subject. Even under President Trump, the federal government continues to fund this propaganda, as with the case of a $3 million National Science Foundation study to stop “microaggressions, implicit bias, and lack of diversity” on college campuses.
The use of taxpayer money to fund studies is already a case of government overreach, even when the research could potentially be useful. But many studies being conducted at supposed institutions of higher learning serve no purpose beyond ideological propaganda as colleges increasingly make race the center of nearly everything they do.
One way or another, the Left wants white Americans to bow down in racial apologetics, even to the point of foregoing their own safety.
As TNA recently reported, San Francisco public officials introduced an ordinance known as the “CAREN Act” that would make it illegal for individuals to make groundless “racially biased” 911 calls, a policy that would potentially discourage people from calling the police on non-white perpetrators, placing lives in jeopardy.
You would think Civil Rights Departments, HR Departments, policymakers and educators would be concerned about the well-being of the people under their care. But in the cult of Social Justice, lives don’t really matter. It’s ideology — and political power — that comes first.
