Pence Called Biden a “Trojan Horse” for Socialism. He’s Right.

During an appearance at Ripon College in Wisconsin on Friday, Vice President Mike Pence described the 2020 presidential election as a choice between “freedom and opportunity” and “socialism and decline,” calling Democratic candidate Joe Biden a “Trojan horse” for socialism.
“It’s not so much whether America will be more conservative or more liberal, more Republican or Democrat, more red or blue. It’s whether America remains America,” Pence told the audience, asserting there are “two paths” that will determine the country’s future.
Though Biden adopted the persona of a moderate during the primaries, he has in recent days made overtures to the progressive wing of the party represented by chief primary rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist.
The Biden-Sanders Unity Task Forces this month put out a combined platform, as described in a 110-page document describing a set of police proposals that encompass a number of issues, particularly climate change, race relations, and police reform.
The list of recommendations includes radical changes to American society, such as getting America off coal and gas-based electricity by 2035 and creating an Environmental and Climate Justice Division within the Department of Justice for cracking down on those who pollute the environment.
“I thought Joe Biden won the Democrat primaries, but looking at their unity agenda, it looks to me like Bernie won,” Pence said. “When you look at their agenda. The only thing and ended up unifying was Joe Biden to the radical left.”
Pence continued: “It’s no wonder the socialist Bernie Sanders said that if Joe Biden was elected he would, in his words, transform the country and be ‘the most progressive president in nearly a century.’ The Biden-Sanders agenda would set America on the path of socialism and decline.”
The vice president also claimed Biden would be nothing more than an “auto pen” president who would institute socialized medicine, condemning him as “a Trojan horse for a radical agenda.”
Additionally, Pence accused Biden of wanting to defund the police. “Joe Biden would weaken the thin blue line that separates us from chaos,” Pence said. “You won’t be safe in Joe Biden’s America.”
Biden has said that he support diverting money from law enforcement to social services and that he would condition federal dollars for local police departments on implementing reforms.
Biden’s unity platform mixes climate and social policies in what it terms “climate justice.” The plan would cost around $2 trillion and would involve giving money to Americans to swap out their gas-powered cars for electric ones, along with creating a “Civilian Climate Corps,” which will perform various anti-climate change initiatives such as restoring wetlands, protecting water supplies, and planting trees.
Of the proposed Climate Justice Division at the DOJ, Bidens’ plan says that he will “will direct his EPA and DOJ to pursue these cases to the fullest extent permitted by law and, when needed, seek additional legislation to hold corporate executives personally accountable — including jail time where merited.”
The program is similar to the Green New Deal championed by Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and to an “environmental justice” plan rolled out by House Democrats last month.
A report from Axios claims that SenATOR Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), another leader of the Democrat party’s progressive wing and a former 2020 contender, is major source of inspiration for Biden’s policies.
The outlet notes:
Biden has so far publicly adopted at least six policy stances shaped by Warren and her team.
• On March 14, Biden endorsed Warren’s bankruptcy proposal, which includes a student debt relief portion.
• About a week later he tweeted about increasing Social Security checks by $200 per month and forgiving a minimum of $10,000 per person in federal student loans — two of Warren’s plans.
• For his “Build Back Better” economic recovery plan, three sources familiar told Axios that the Biden and Warren teams consulted closely together on this plan and many of Warren’s ideas are reflected in it.
• Specifically, the procurement investment and a focus on green manufacturing were derived from two of Warren’s plans she unveiled during the primary.
Part of Biden’s appeal during the primaries was that he offered (relatively speaking) a practical, moderate alternative to the radical proposals of Sanders, Warren, and other progressives. Even now, despite Biden’s growing radicaliam, many moderate Democrats and suburban Republicans look to him as the middle-of-the-road candidate.
Now that the nomination is all-but locked and certain, it’s becoming ever clearer that the inmates are running the asylum.
