“Free America Now!” Elon Musk Surprisingly Calls for End to Lockdowns
Written by Luis Miguel
Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of electric automaker Tesla, is turning heads with his unexpected call for an end to the widespread coronavirus lockdowns, demanding government “give people their freedom back!”
Musk, the 48-year-old South African-born engineer and entrepreneur also known for founding the private aerospace manufacturer SpaceX, made his comments on Twitter and linked to a Wall Street Journal article that presents data indicating lockdowns have been ineffectual at savings lives.

The speed with which officials shuttered the economy appears not to be a factor in Covid deaths.
“True,” Musk answered.
When another Twitter user said that, based on the data, allowing citizens to go back to work “would be the ethical things,” Musk concurred and said he opposes placing “everyone under de facto house arrest.”
If the CFR is as low as the Santa Clara Stanford study (.12%, this one appears to have errors in data analysis and be based on Facebook advertising), or even closer to Iceland (.7% for closed cases), reopening CAREFULLY (with proper social distancing) would be the ethical thing.
“What is materializing in the state of California is 12 percent positives,” said Dr. Erickson. “We have 39.5 million people. If we just take a basic calculation and extrapolate that out, that equates to about 4.7 million cases throughout the state of California, which means this thing is widespread.
“That’s the good news. We’ve seen 1,227 deaths in the state of California with a possible incidence or prevalence of 4.7 million; that means you have a 0.03 chance of dying from COVID-19 in the state of California.”
And in yet another tweet, Musk wrote “Bravo Texas!” in reaction to news that the Lone Star State will allow its businesses to reopen (albeit under numerous conditions) on Friday.
As expected, Musk’s remarks earned him ridicule from mainstream journalists who normally would heap praise on him. Matt Novak at Gizmodo called Musk “America’s dumbest smart guy.”
“Musk is a relatively smart guy. But just because he owns a rocket company doesn’t mean he understands what’s best for public health,” Novak wrote, going on to accuse the billionaire of “bordering on trutherism.”
Musk’s “FREE AMERICA NOW” is not too distant from President Trump’s recent tweets calling on Democrat governors to “LIBERATE” the people of Michigan, Minnesota, and Virginia.
Moreover, Musk who has been criticized for relying heavily on government subsidies, runs with the globalist crowd and frequents globalist gatherings such as the World Government Summit, where he advanced radical ideas such as the transformation of human brings into cyborgs and the implementation of universal basic income.
“I think it’s going to be necessary,” he said. “There will be fewer and fewer jobs that a robot cannot do better…. I think universal basic income will be necessary, but the much harder challenge is: How will people then have meaning?”
Nevertheless, Musk has shown skepticism of the mainstream response to the COVID-19 pandemic from the beginning. On March 6, he tweeted “kids are essentially immune” to the disease.
While Twitter has removed 2,400 tweets since March 18 that allegedly go against its coronavirus policy against misinformation, the social-media platform has said that Musk’s tweets don’t violate its rules.
But is Musk’s motivation ideological? His Tesla factory in Fremont, California, has been in the news as the question remains over whether it will soon open. Fremont is currently under a shelter-in-place order that is set to expire on May 4, assuming it isn’t extended.
Already some states are moving forward with easing coronavirus restrictions, although establishment authorities such as Dr. Anthony Fauci and the World Health Organization warn that reopening too soon could have disastrous consequences for Americans’ health.
Is Elon Musk saying the right things? Yes. But is he sincere or merely trying to win over liberty-minded Americans? Given Musk’s track record, patriots would do well to be skeptical.
