China Poses Greater Election Risk Than Russia, U.S. Officials Say

National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien said he agrees with assessments from Attorney General Bill Barr and other officials that China poses a greater threat to America’s election integrity than Russia.
“Yes I agree with him, 100%,” O’Brien said of Barr at a White House press briefing.
The Attorney General had previously been asked by CNN which of the two nations has been more aggressive in interfering with U.S. elections.
“I believe it’s China,” Barr responded. “Because I’ve seen the intelligence, that’s what I’ve concluded.”
In August, the intelligence community put out a warning of various countries seeking to influence policy and elections in America.
“Ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections, foreign states will continue to use covert and overt influence measures in their attempts to sway U.S. voters’ preferences and perspectives, shift U.S. policies, increase discord in the United States, and undermine the American people’s confidence in our democratic process,” Director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center Bill Evanina said in a statement.
Per the report, Iran seeks to sabotage the campaign of President Trump while Russia wants to undermine Biden’s. The intelligence officials also said that China “prefers” for the president to lose his reelection bid.
“Although China will continue to weigh the risks and benefits of aggressive action, its public rhetoric over the past few months has grown increasingly critical of the current Administration’s COVID-19 response, closure of China’s Houston Consulate, and actions on other issues,” Evanina said further, adding that “China “has harshly criticized the Administration’s statements and actions on Hong Kong, TikTok, the legal status of the South China Sea, and China’s efforts to dominate the 5G market.”
Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe has also gone on the record stating that China poses “a greater national security threat economically, militarily and technologically to the United States than any other nation.… That includes threats of election influence and interference.”
Democrats, however, criticized the Trump administration over the warnings, condemning the “false narrative of equivalence” and arguing that Russia poses a greater threat to America than China or any other foreign actor.”
“The aims and actions of Russia, China and Iran are not the same,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.). “Only one country — Russia — is actively undertaking a range of measures to undermine the presidential election and to secure the outcome that the Kremlin sees as best serving its interests.”
O’Brien further explained that it was difficult to assess what impact foreign adversaries were having.
“It’s hard to know what impact they can have or how they are spreading things, I know some of our tech companies are doing a good job … whether its Facebook, Twitter or others, in trying to police things in a way they didn’t before,” he said, maintaining that the U.S. intelligence community is doing a good job in tracking election interference.
“The Department of Homeland Security, with increased funding from this administration, is doing a good job of hardening our infrastructure to make sure that, whether its cyber infrastructure or physical infrastructure, to make sure we’re not susceptible to having the choice the American people make on Election Day changed by some foreign party,” O’Brien stated.
He assured the press that while there will always be efforts to influence American politics, “we know that the Chinese have taken the most active role but the Russians and the Iranians and other countries are involved as well.”
Nevertheless, O’Brien warned that “we’re just not going to tolerate these other countries trying to get involved in our election.”
For readers of The New American and those who follow the globalists’ machinations, Chinese interference in U.S. elections is nothing new.
In fact, it was pro-Chinese communists who helped flip once-red Virginia into a Democrat-controlled state. The co-executive director of a group with pro-Chinese Communist connections openly claimed credit for flipping Virginia, stating that the plan for socializing Virginia was “put in motion years ago.” That co-executive director is Tram Nguyen, and her organization is New Virginia Majority (NVM).
Nguyen wrote that her organization spent 12 years targeting minority neighborhoods with a pitch for voter registration and an increased voter turnout tied to the promise of more money and benefits from the public till.
Ant-communist author Trevor Loudon notes that “NVM is a front for Liberation Road, known until April this year as Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), the United States’ most influential Maoist organization.”
If American leaders don’t take proactive steps to secure the nation’s politics from foreign influence, our policies will be just as “made in China” as our manufactured products.
