Boy Scouts Declares Support for BLM, Rolls Out “Diversity” Merit Badge
Written by Luis Miguel
So much for duty to God and country.
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is the latest organization to join the social-justice bandwagon sweeping the nation following the death of George Floyd, showing solidarity with Black Lives Matter (BLM) by unveiling a “diversity and inclusion” merit badge that will be required to attain the rank of Eagle Scout — BSA’s highest rank. Remember that BLM is a group that is pro-communist, anti-American, and anti-police. Just five years ago, its members marched chanting, “Pigs in a blanket. Fry like bacon!” It seems that to BSA police lives don’t matter.
In a letter entitled “BSA’s Commitment to Act Against Racial Injustice,” the BSA national executive council said, “There is no place for racism” and that the organization “believes that Black Lives Matter.”
“As our country reckons with racial injustice, we all must consider our role and our failures and commit to meaningful action,” the letter begins.
After stating that the organization has “not been as brave as we should have been,” the executive committee goes on to declare, “There is no place for racism — not in Scouting and not in our communities. Racism will not be tolerated.”
We condemn the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and all those who are not named but are equally important. We hear the anguish, feel the heartbreak, and join the country’s resolve to do better.
The Boy Scouts of America stands with Black families and the Black community because we believe that Black Lives Matter. This is not a political issue; it is a human rights issue and one we all have a duty to address.
The letter then details various steps BSA will take to promote racial justice. First among them is the creation of “a specific diversity and inclusion merit badge that will be required for the rank of Eagle Scout.” The badge will be based on concepts currently in place for the American Cultures and Citizenship in the Community merit badges.
BSA also says it will review every element of its programs “to ensure diversity and inclusion are engrained at every level for participants and volunteers by applying a standard that promotes racial equality and denounces racism, discrimination, inequality and injustice.”
But it doesn’t stop there. The letter states that, beginning July 1, the organization will require diversity and inclusion training for all BSA employees.
BSA will also conduct a review of property names, events, and insignia to enforce the group’s current ban on the use of the Confederate flag and “ensure that symbols of oppression are not in use today or in the future.”
The letter promises: “These are our next steps but certainly not our last.”
BSA’s alignment with Black Lives Matter is the latest in a series of decisions over the last decade that show the organization has been irreparably damaged via convergence with the “social justice” Marxist Left.
It began in 2013, when BSA voted to allow openly gay scouts into troops, despite the fact that the Scout Oath says that a scout must be “morally straight.” Two years later, BSA removed its blanket ban on openly homosexual scout leaders (though allowed charter organization to continue to prohibit them), thereby making it possible for gay men to go on overnight camping trips with underage boys.
In 2017, the Boy Scouts started letting “transgender boys” (girls pretending to be male) into the program. Then, just last year, female youths were allowed to join the program — even though Girl Scouts already exists (it’s a separate entity from Boy Scouts, though Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low was inspired after meeting Boy Scouts founder Robert Baden-Powell in 1911).
That change led to Boy Scouts of America officially changing its name to “Scouts BSA.”
Ironically, while America’s Boy Scouts show solidarity with Black Lives Matter, that support does not appear to be a two-way street.
In the U.K., social-justice activists listed a statue of Baden-Powell as one of many that “celebrate slavery and racism” and must be taken down. The town council bucked under the pressure and scheduled a removal — and were only prevented from following through after former scouts, some from as far as 100 miles away, rushed to the statue to put a ring of steel around it to protect it from the disposal crew.
The town council ultimately had to abandon its plans to take down the statue and 24-hour security was even put up to protect it against vandalism.
The lesson for all should be to furiously guard your institutions. The BSA’s convergence with Marxists shows that even the most patriotic, pro-America organizations can be infiltrated and destroyed from within when the leadership and members get lax and allow the admission of subversives.
