Biden Lands a Big Fish as Obama Finally Endorses Him for President
Written by James Murphy
A day after securing chief rival Bernie Sanders’ endorsement, presumptive Democrat nominee Joe Biden has landed an even bigger seal of approval as former President Barack Obama threw his support behind his former vice-president. In an almost 12-minute video released Tuesday, Obama officially endorsed Biden in his run for president of the United States.
Obama’s video, which touched heavily on the COVID-19 pandemic now burdening the nation, spoke of the need for national unity in times of great crisis and touted Biden as the person to lead the country through such a time.
“If there’s one thing we’ve learned as a country from moments of great crisis, it’s that the spirit of looking out for one another can’t be restricted to our homes or our workplaces, or our neighborhoods or our houses of worship. It also has to be reflected in our national government,” Obama said.
“That kind of leadership doesn’t just belong in our state capitols and mayor’s offices. It belongs in the White House. And that’s why I’m so proud to endorse Joe Biden for president of the United States.”
Obama added, “Choosing Joe to be my Vice President was one of the best decisions I ever made, and he became a close friend. And I believe Joe has all the qualities we need in a President right now.”
If those qualities include a proclivity for deceit, a propensity to make terrible gaffes whenever speaking, and a having credible sexual-assault accusation against him, then yes, Biden has those qualities.
Biden thanked Obama in a tweet. “Barack — This endorsement means the world to Jill and me. We’re going to build on the progress we made together, and there’s no one I’d rather have standing by my side.”
Both the Sanders and Obama endorsements signal a shift in how the presidential campaign moves forward from this point, with most of the major Democrats likely to fall in line behind Biden in the midst of the two major endorsements.
Biden had previously asked that Obama not endorse anyone, saying that “whoever wins this nomination should win it on their own merits.” Nevertheless, Biden endlessly touted his time with Obama in the White House as a reason to vote for him.
The Trump campaign immediately mocked Obama’s endorsement, saying that the former president had no choice but to come out for Biden.
“Barack Obama spent much of the last five years urging Joe Biden not to run for president out of fear that he would embarrass himself,” said Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale. “Now that Biden is the only candidate left in the Democrat field, Obama has no other choice but to support him.”
Parscale added, “Even Bernie Sanders beat him to it. Obama was right in the first place: Biden is a bad candidate who will embarrass himself and his party. President Trump will destroy him.”
The endorsements of Sanders and Obama help Biden enormously, but he remains a seriously flawed candidate. His history of unforced mistakes, gaffes, inappropriately touching females, and plagiarism show not only flaws in his character, but possibly mental acuity issues.
The Democrats are digging their own grave by going all-in on Joe Biden.
