As conservative students across numerous college campuses in the US struggle against dominant liberal classmates, faculty, and administrators for the right to free speech, China-funded language institutes are permitted to populate college campuses and infuse a pro-China viewpoint into the minds of future leaders.

Today, reporter Arleen Richards speaks to Gordon Chang, a political pundit and China expert about the infiltration of Confucius Institutes on college campuses; and Charlie Copeland, a former Republican Senator and current president of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute about why conservative college students don’t have a voice on college campuses.

Whether it’s China’s influence through numerous Confucius Institutes planted across a number of college campuses or the trampling of conservative students’ free speech, there seems to be a concerted effort to subvert free societies across the US.

Is there a joint effort between China and American leftists to take over America? Or are they acting separately with the same goal in mind?

My first guest, Gordon Chang was born and raised in America, but lived and worked in China for nearly 20 years. He is a lawyer, China expert and author of several books, including the thought-provoking The Coming Collapse of China, and, most recently, an eye-opening work Losing South Korea. Gordon spoke with me about the growing number of Confucius Institutes infiltrating American College campuses and why they could be doing more harm than good.

The Confucian philosophy emphasized morality, in personal life and in government. Confucius taught the correctness of social relationships, justice, and sincerity. He believed that leaders should learn self-discipline and govern by example, treating others with love and concern.

Gordon says China does not believe in this philosophy but recognizes that the name Confucius is smart branding.

In the last 5 years, various media reports have indicated that China is likely using the Confucius Institutes as forms of spy agencies in addition to influencing the next generation of American leaders to think and speak favorably about China.

Gordon said China’s primary goal is to influence college students, rather than obtaining intelligence information.

Although Gordon does not think there is a connection between the Confucius Institutes and the leftist socialist activities, he did agree that Chinese diplomats and student groups use inappropriate actions to convince college officials to support communist China views.

My next guest, Charlie Copeland described similar tactics used by American socialist organizations to block conservative free speech. Ironically, it has been said by communist authorities that socialism is one step before communism, so the origins of the two ideologies may not be so different.

Charlie Copeland is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, a former Republican Senator of Delaware.

The ISI is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches students American ideals of individual freedom and personal responsibility to counter the progressive ideology taking over American Colleges.

Charlie spoke with me about the philosophy of the ISI and how it addresses the struggles conservative college students experience on dominantly leftist campuses where socialist student groups supported by faculty and administrators trample on freedom of speech rights.

Charlie believes that the founding principles of the US Constitution are at the heart of the ISI’s philosophy and the basis for teaching students how to live a free life. But conservative faculty members and students face challenges to teaching and learning the truth about this country’s origins.

Charlie says that the kind of education a young person receives will be a determining factor to what happens in the future of the world because the next generation needs to be properly taught the principles of civil society.

Conservative faculty and students have to hide in plain sight or pretend to agree with the liberal leftist’s views in order to protect themselves from scrutiny and public humiliation.

Who will win in this war to control America? Will China join forces with American liberals?

Are American liberals unwittingly assisting China?

If America returns to traditional values and our founding principles, will that make America great again?

It’s difficult to know what the right decisions are while we are in the midst of chaos, but I suspect we can’t go wrong by taking a big step back and returning to the true principles that our country was founded on. But first, we have to find out what the real truth is.
