Under scrutiny

Senator Lindsey Graham has come under scrutiny after criticizing retired generals for calling Donald Trump a “fascist.” Graham dismissed the term as mere desperation from Trump’s opponents.

Similar language

ABC’s Jonathan Karl countered Graham’s argument with clips of Trump using similar language against Kamala Harris. In the footage, Trump labeled Harris a “fascist,” “Marxist,” and “communist.”

Fascist person

“We have a fascist person running who’s incompetent,” Trump said. “She’s a Marxist, communist, fascist, socialist. She’s not actually a socialist, she’s gone past that.”

Maintained his critique

Graham denied sharing Trump’s views but maintained his critique of Harris’ abilities.

You ask me

“Why don’t you ask me, do I think Kamala Harris is a fascist? No. Do I think she’s a communist? No,” Graham said.

Most liberal person

“I think she’s the most liberal person ever to be nominated by a major party. I think she’s ineffective. I think she’s incompetent,” Graham pressed.

Lousy president

“You’re not having Lindsey Graham call her a fascist, she’s just incompetent and incapable and would be a lousy president,” Graham added.

Prompting the debate

John Kelly, a former U.S. Marine Corps general, recently described Trump as fitting the fascist definition. Retired Army General Mark Milley also labeled Trump a “total fascist” and a national threat, prompting the debate.
