In April 2024, work began on a $12 billion high-speed light rail connecting Las Vegas and the Los Angeles area, with passengers slated for travel as early as 2028 - just in time for the Los Angeles Olympics. Brightline West hopes to lay 218 miles of new track between the Las Vegas strip and Rancho Cucamonga, essentially the entire distance of Interstate 15.
